Staging is preparing your house for sale.  The way you live in your home and the way you market and sell your house are two different things.  Once your house is on the market it is no longer your home -  it becomes a product, and you want your product to stand out among the competition.  Staging is not decorating - it is depersonalizing and neutralizing a home so that it appeals to ALL buyers.  Most buyers are unable to imagine a room other than how they see it - a staged home is decluttered and gives each room a purpose, allowing the buyer to mentally move their things into the space.  Staging is the most effective marketing tool when selling your house as it transforms a home into a house that buyers can see themselves living in.

WHEN SHOULD I STAGE MY HOME?

A home should be staged before it is listed for sale or shown to any prospective buyers.  The majority of buyers today begin their search for a home online - if they don't like what they see in the pictures, they will not be interested in a home tour.  Pictures should be taken and posted online only after the home has been staged to ensure the best first impression.
